You might have heard of Miyajima because it has the largest wooden spatula in the world. Legend has it that wood spatula making was originated on the island because Monk Seishin taught people the techniques to save them from poverty in the 1700s. This is why the wood spatula is still a popular souvenir for the tourists, as it is believed that it brings fortune to people who use it.
Founded in the Meiji period, Miyajima Kougei Seisakusho has been making trays, and later on focused on wooden cooking utensils. The shape of the handle and the angle of the head is carefully designed to ensure it is easy to use. The longer you use this butter knife, the smoother it becomes.
